Hellooooo 2013!

Happy New Year you lovely lot! Hope you all had brilliant New Years Eves ♥ Mine was spent demolishing a curry and eating chocolate in a bubble bath, before watching Big Ben do his stuff and London do us proud with the most fantastic fireworks display I have ever seen!

With every new year comes new years resolutions; some that last a week, some a month and some a bit longer.

As I do every year I will be spending January detoxing - there are links to more information at the bottom of this post if you fancy a read.

This year, however, I am also going to be doing a juicing fast (/feast!), something I haven't done before. For three days (starting on Thursday or Friday..... whenever John Lewis decide to deliver my Dualit 88305!) I am going to drink only fruit and vegetable juices.

Despite my penchant for cake, I am, in fact, a very healthy eater. I've been interested in, and researching, juicing for a while now and have been keen to give it a go ever since I started reading up on the subject. There are numerous health benefits from juicing, and from what I can gather (pro-juicers out there, PLEASE correct me if  I'm wrong) the main ones are as follows:

- By juicing fruit & veg we are removing the indigestible fibre which means the body uses less energy trying to digest it, and larger quantities of the nutrients are more easily absorbed. Some people may suggest this is a bad thing but fibre is found in many other foods which can (and should) be introduced into every body's diet.

- Fresh fruit and vegetables are packed full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants - all of which your body needs to be strong and stay well. Cooked or steamed fruit and veg lose some (although not all) of these so eating them raw or juiced is heaps better for the body and increases energy levels and boosts the immune system.

- It is recommended that we eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Even by introducing one juice to your diet per day you can get all of these in one hit.

Although I am going to do three days of juicing alone (I will be following the JuiceMaster's 3 day detox - available as an app for iPhones and Androids) my plan is to keep it up as a supplement to my usual diet. If you're interested in reading more or want to join in take a look at the JuiceMaster website here or follow Jason Vale, the JuiceMaster himself, on Twitter here. I will let you know how I get on and will, no doubt, blog some more about juicing as I learn more about it!

I also have some other resolutions lined up for Modern Mummy.

I'm not going to blog about the ins and outs of my detox as I've done that all before, but January will bring a whole heap of healthy recipe ideas - including wheat and dairy free, vegetarian and juice recipes; some by me and some by knowledgeable guest posters.

I'm starting a new regular style feature this year, looking at fashion for babies and toddlers ~ keep your eyes peeled for my new Daily Outfit ♥ posts!

I'm going to make a real effort to network this year; it's about time I met up with all the other bloggers I regularly tweet!

I hope 2013 is a fantastic one for us all xoxox
