Fish for Thought: A Review

Last month we were sent a Fish for Thought seafood hamper to try.

Fish for Thought are a small, family run business (the best kind!) based in Cornwall that started out in May 2007. They were the first ever online fishmongers, have won numerous awards and have even starred alongside The Hairy Bikers (who just so happen to be my favourite celebrity chefs).

The girls and I love fish. It's so good for you and so quick and easy to prepare, which is important for me as a work-at-home Mum. My husband isn't as keen (he won't even eat it battered with chips..... weirdo!!) so we will often eat it for dinner when he's at work and we're home alone.

Our Fish for Thought kid's hamper arrived, well sealed in a polystyrene box filled with ice, first thing in the morning. Inside, clearly labelled, were forty very generous 100g portions - including 2kg of fresh fish fillets, 1kg of fish pie mix and 1kg of white fish goujons. The fish (which can be either cod, haddock, coley, pollack, plaice or salmon) is already skinned and boned (as best as possible) ready to be prepared and cooked by you!

I divided it up and re-bagged it in individual portions and it filled an entire drawer in our freezer! Completely amazing for only £40. White fish lasts for around 8 months when stored properly so it's the perfect healthy freezer food and is very worthwhile buying in bulk.

Our box included a big bag of mussels, pollack, plaice, whiting and goujons and lead to some delicious meals over the coming weeks, including:

Moules marinere

Fishfinger puddings - recipe coming soon!

Fish pie - served with beans after an interesting Twitter debate!

I've also had a couple of simple baked fish suppers-for-one once the children have gone to bed and have been utterly delighted with the quality of all of the fish we received.

Fish for Thought have a variety of different hampers, and smaller portions of fresh and frozen fish and shellfish, available online here. Delivery is £7.95, or free on orders over £100. The website is also a wealth of information when it comes to seafood and has some amazing recipes too so is well worth a look!

As a special offer, first orders over £25 have free delivery and come with two free Cornish plaice. That sounds like a good incentive to give Fish for Thought a try if you ask me! They definitely get the Modern Mummy seal of approval and we are already looking forward to buying from them again.xoxo
