The Mum Tag

I don't often do memes, in fact the only other one I've ever done was 7 Things You Didn't Know About Me and that was more than three years ago! But when Ruth from RocknRollerBaby tagged me in this one I couldn't resist because it meant I could talk all about two of my favourite subjects.... my lovely family and motherhood.

1. Are you a stay at home mum, or a working mum?
I'm a work at home mum, so a bit of both.

2. Would you have it any other way?
I don't think so. I'm a writer and I love what I do, but I love being at home with my children more. I know I'm incredibly lucky to be able to do both.

3. Do you co-sleep?
Yes. And I LOVE IT! Bedtimes usually start off with everyone in their own rooms but by morning we often have four in a bed - or the girls are in with me and my husband is in one of the bunk beds! The girls both wake up so many times in the night it's easier to just have them in with me, plus the cuddles are awesome.

4. What is your one must-have item for your baby?
Aside from the obvious - a pram - I would say my Stokke Tripp Trapp has been my best baby buy. Mealtimes are really important to us and with the newborn set we were able to have Evie up to the table with us from day one.

5. How many kids do you plan on having?
I originally wanted four but my pregnancy with Evie was rather trying so two may be our lot.... we'll see!

6. Date night? How many per month?
Er...... last year we had three. Yes three in the whole of 2013. And one of those was our wedding night! I'd love to have more but we don't have a babysitter nearby.

7. Your child's favourite show?
Daisy is obsessed with anything Disney, American or pink at the moment! Current faves include Minnie's Bowtoons, Barbie - Life in the Dream House and Strawberry Shortcake. Evie watches whatever Daisy makes her!

8. Name one thing you bought before you had your baby and never ended up using?
A separate baby bath... and then a seat for the big bath! When the girls were tiny we always bathed with them, then as they got bigger we just used to put them in the big bath with about an inch of water to splash around in!

9. Your child's favourite food?
We're all addicted to sushi! Daisy has been known to eat sixteen maki rolls in one sitting, and Evie loves beef tsukune and pumpkin korroke. Both of them would choose edamame beans over chocolate any day!

10. How many cars does your family have?
Just the one, which my husband uses for work six days a week. I gave up my car back in 2012, when we only had Daisy and were still living in London. Now that we live in the middle of nowhere - and I have Evie to ferry around too - I'd love a car for myself. PRs take note ;)

11. Weight before, during and after pregnancy and now?
Oh god! Pre-kids I weighed 9.5 stone. Then I gained FOUR STONE TWO POUNDS (!) with Daisy, but I lost it all within six months. With Evie I only gained 2 stone and it took a full year to shift it. These days I'm around 10 stone and am happy with that.

12. Dream holiday with your kids?
I'd love to take them off on a trip round the UK in a campervan! With kids it's nice to have your home comforts around you and with a camper it would be easy to have everything you want and need with you all the time. When I was a kid we only ever holidayed in the UK and it was always so much fun! We'd spend all day on the beach, or go and visit castles or stately homes nearby, then have BBQs in the evening or go to the pub for a bottle of pop. I'd love my kids to have as fond memories of their childhood holidays as I have of mine.

13. Dream holiday without your kids?
Without sounding too soppy, I don't think I could have a dream holiday without my kids! I wouldn't say no to one night away in a hotel by myself though, just for the good night's sleep. Any would do, although one with a spa might be extra nice!

14. How has your life changed since having babies?
It's made me realise what is important to me and that's my family - the kids, my parents, my siblings. I was quite superficial in my twenties and I don't mind admitting it. I spent all my money on designer labels and all my time partying! Life has slowed down now and getting to spend quality time with my family is my favourite thing to do.

15. Finish the sentence: 'It makes my heart melt to see......?'
The girls playing together nicely! There's a three year age gap between them and it's only now that they're aged 16 months and four and a half that they are starting to play together properly. I love it.

16. Where do you shop for your kids?
I LOVE Boden's corduroy pinafore dresses and have loads. Some are new and some are second, third and even fourth hand! I don't mind spending money on them as I know they wash well and last forever. I also adore Jools Oliver's range for Mothercare, Little Bird. I love the bright colours and floral prints and her clothes have a vintage edge and remind me of the clothes my Mum used to dress me in, in the eighties. I also love Ava & Luc, Maxomorra and me&i for their bold and eye catching designs.

17. Favourite make up and skin care products?
I'm terrible when it comes to skincare. I use soap and water twice a day, and simple facial wipes if I'm wearing make up. That's it. EVERYONE tells me off but it's worked OK so far! My make up staples include a few different Benefit eye shadows and Barry M dazzle dusts, Max Factor foundation and 2000 Calorie mascara, No7 translucent powder and Body Shop liquid eyeliner and clover pink lipstick.

18. Huggies or Pampers?
Pampers for sure.

19. Have you always wanted kids?
Yes, always.

20. Best part about being a mum?
All of it. Seriously. I wouldn't change a thing

  2. Thank you for the tag. I'm so impressed at your girls liking sushi! I haven't tried our boys on it yet, I'm sure they would find something wrong.
A UK trip in a Campervan sounds so fun, I'd love that too x
