Beep Beep! Organising Our New Car

Just before Easter I bought a new car. Well. A new - old - car. I was very, VERY excited as I'd been without one for two years (you can read my post about becoming a car free zone here).

Yes, back in 2012, when I was still living in the suburbs of London and only had one daughter, I decided to do away with my car and invested in a bicycle - and a weeride - to replace it. Getting around London was easy, even without using my bike; there were trains, tubes and buses that, despite what the majority of public transport users say, were actually really reliable.

Fast forward two years and I found myself living in the middle of the country with two small people to ferry around. As happy as I am braving the elements and walking a lot, after two particularly wet and chilly winters I started to hanker after the warmth and comfort of a car. Plus as lovely as Haslemere is, it was pretty tricky to get out of it without a set of wheels.

So I set about researching makes and models, and which strollers would fit into their boots, and eventually opted for a Mercedes A160. Small on the outside, spacious on the inside, with plenty of room for my Silver Cross Reflex AND the girls' two Micro Scooters in the boot (don't let anyone tell you the A-class and it's boot are too small for a family!).

Once I got my shiny shiny new-old wheels, it was time to make them my own. I'm a sucker for anything that helps me to organise my life, so first on my shopping list were some organisers for the back seat - and all the snacks, toys and books etc that are essential items when travelling with kids.

Diono, famous for their car seats, also have a huge range of car accessories and I opted for two of the Stow 'n Go for the backs of the front seats (one each for the girls) and a Travel Pal to sit on the back seat between them.

The Stow 'n Go fastens around any headrest and ties around the bottom of the seat for a secure fit and keeps everything organised and easy to find! It has seven full sized pockets and two drink holders and is made from a waterproof material that is also entirely washable.

We've packed ours full of pencils, colouring and reading books plus they hold a stash of spare hair clips too.

The Travel Pal has some slightly bulkier books and toys, like Daisy's Disney Princess Touchpad and Evie's Peppa Pig Notebook, and holds their snacks and drinks so that they are easy to reach and share. The drinks holders (on the outside) are insulated, plus on the main body of the organiser there are lots of pockets (one zippered) to hold little things.

They retail at £10.99 and £11.00 respectfully and are available from John Lewis and JoJo Maman Bebe.

Once the organisation was dealt with, it was time to start on the music and the pretties! I picked up a whole heap of CDs from an HMV that was closing down for £2.99 each - plus, of course, I had to have a lucky cat from Japan on my dashboard. Miaow!
