Creating A Home Is All In the Detail

If you've just moved into a new home and you're struggling to get the look that you want, chances are you're missing a few small details. One of the biggest mistakes most homeowners make is that when they decorate their house, they ignore the things that make a house feel like a home.

In this post we're going to look at a few things that you should consider if you're struggling to get that homely feeling from your new house.

Why Are Details Important?
If you move into a newbuild, you will generally notice one thing; it looks like a show home. When people first occupy a new house, they have a tendency to spend big on things like carpets, wallpaper and other large items, the truth is, without any personal touches that really make the home look like yours, it will just look like every other house on your street.

It’s All In The Gloss
While it may sound incredibly simple, one thing that can often make all the difference to the way a home looks at feels is something as simple as glossing. Yes, it’s simple, but let’s look at things from another angle. When you get dressed, you often look at the outfit and realise that it requires something else. Once you notice this, you then start to accessorise. Well, when it comes to your home, you need to do exactly the same thing. One of the easiest ways to accessorise is to simply frame your work. It’s great having a beautiful colour scheme, but should you not frame it correctly; you will just look like another show home.

Don’t Have Empty Walls.
Another important part of creating a homely atmosphere is to add some personal touches to your walls. When you walk into a house with nothing on the walls, it often feels cold and unwelcoming. If you want to add some personal touches to the house, then all you have to do is put some family photos or pictures that you love into A4 frames or create some pieces of art yourself. Having these placed up the stairway and in the hall can make a house feel like a home from the moment you walk in the front door.

Choose Warm Lighting
The final thing we will talk about today is the importance of amber glow lighting when you are trying to create a homely feel. This is one of the cheapest, and best things you can do that will give your home a warm and cosy feeling. If you really want to make your house a home, then head to your nearest store, buy some amber light bulbs and you will find yourself dumbfounded at just how simple it was to change the aesthetics of your home.
