Dear Diary #17

Another week has flown by, and this time it was half term so I had both of my babies at home with me. Normally as soon as the school holidays arrive we are straight off on an road trip but that wasn't to be this week after my lovely new (old) car died.... It had actually packed up before we left for Walt Disney World, but I left it until we got back to take it to the garage for a diagnosis. Turns out the electrics were fooked (pardon my French), as was the power steering. It also had problems with the rear suspension and two almost-illegal tyres. The long and short of it is that the cost to get it back up and running and road worthy almost exceeded the price I paid for it so I decided to send it off to the giant scrapyard in the sky (that actually happened today, sob!)

I know it's only a car, and one that I only had for fifteen months for that matter, but I feel uncharacteristically sad about the whole scenario. I also feel ever so slightly trapped. When you live in the sticks you need a set of wheels to get you about, and knowing you're not able to get out on the road is a bit suffocating. Sometimes I really do miss London and it's awesome public transport system! I'm off to Devon for a wedding next weekend, so the search for a new family car will start on my return.

Car dramas aside, this week we have also been:

Eating brownies and ice cream for breakfast

Meeting Julia Donaldson - WHAT a LEGEND!

Enjoying the sunshine

Being grumpy about the rain

cuddling up in bed together.

We also had two movie nights (Fairytale: A True Story and The Dark Crystal), been to the cinema to watch Frozen Fever and Cinderella and I've TOTALLY restarted watching my Sex in the City box set from the pilot episode of season 1. I've let the girls have late nights, which have resulted in lazy mornings (oh my GOODNESS, I've loved the very long overdue lie ins!) and I'm so excited that there's only seven weeks left of school before we get another six weeks off!

  1. What a lovely week! I totally miss my SATC box sets. When we move back to the UK from the US they had to go as they wouldn't work over here. I must rebuy them soon. I used to love rewatching the old ones. Enjoy :-)

  2. Wonderful post!!! That sunshine photo is amazing!!!

  3. Fab week :) Ice cream and brownies for breakfast sounds IDEAL! The sunshine picture is amazing and I hope you're getting it printed for your wall!
